In all actuality, testing any application requires diligence and an eye for attention to details. It also requires note taking and documentation in a way that explains clearly to the programmers what happened with the application, under what conditions it can be reproduced, and the exact steps to determine it's frequency and severity. While that sounds pretty fast and easy, it often can be quite difficult to put into words precisely what is needed by the programming team.
Bugs also have to be found quickly. A bug found a week after the program goes GM is a missed opportunity to make it even better, and can damage sales efforts and weaken customer loyalty. This means testers must be available on short notice and turn around reports very quickly.
